American Sign Language –  Beginner’s session

On Fridays at 1:00 pm at the Senior Center, join us for free beginner lessons in basic American Sign Language (ASL). Could you use a less exhausting way to communicate in noisy places? Would you like to answer questions while eating with your mouth closed? Did you know you can talk to someone under water or behind windows with sign language? What if you become ill and cannot speak with your voice? And you can communicate with babies earlier because they can learn sign languages faster than oral languages! Everyone can benefit from sign language, even from just the basics. We go over the alphabet and functional sign vocabulary, such as greetings, asking for help and other questions, numbers, colors, facial expressions that link to ʺtone of voice,” family, food, and other useful signs. There are many resources online, but nothing beats live, in‐person guidance when learning. Try your hand (literally) in learning this beautiful language!

Space is limited, so please register at 617‐730‐2770.
