SIXTIES SINGERS/SONGWRITERS

On Monday, October 27 at 1:00 pm, join John Clark and his Great American Music Experience for this multimedia presentation. The program starts with Bob Dylan’s early sixties competitors–Tim Buckley, Tim Hardin, Tom Paxton, Gordon Lightfoot and Phil Ochs, who all achieved some measure of success. We also touch on the importance of Tom Rush and Judy Collins in helping to popularize many of the best writers of the era by recording their songs. We then turn to the early days of the many singer/songwriters who would launch careers that brought them great success in the 70s and beyond—Donovan, Van Morrison, James Taylor, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, David Bowie, Carole King and Bernie Taupin, who wrote the lyrics to Elton John’s music. And let’s not forget the late Robbie Robertson, the creative force behind The Band, as well as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison who all released successful solo albums after the Beatles broke up. This event is generously sponsored by Waterstone at the Circle.
