SAVE THE DATE – VETERAN’S DAY PROGRAM

The Brookline Senior Center will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. There will be no food or transportation services available that day.
Join us on Tuesday, November 4, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm (formal presentation at 11:00 am) to celebrate this holiday that is rich in symbolism. In ancient times, Aztec and Mayan people set aside an entire month to welcome home the spirits of loved ones who had died. To this day, in most homes in Mexico you will find an ofrenda (an altar) to welcome a family’s loved ones’ return. A community ofrenda will be constructed at the Brookline Senior Center this year, and you are invited to participate by bringing a photograph or memento of a loved one who has passed to either Julie Washburn or Jamie Jensen in the days before the observance. You can also bring it the day of the observance between 10:00 and 11:00 am to be placed on the ofrenda. Please be sure to write your name on any photos. As part of the presentation, you may want to say a few words or tell a short anecdote about your loved one. Light refreshments provided. Hope to see you there!
