Brookline, Massachusetts, Gallery 93 at the Brookline Senior Center is pleased to present our New Exhibit:
Brookline, Massachusetts, Gallery 93 at the Brookline Senior Center is pleased to present Without a Map: Paintings & Mixed Media by Barbara Trachtenberg. The exhibit runs from September 14, 2026, through November 30, 2026. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday October 22 from 1:30-3:00 pm with an artist’s talk held at 2:00 pm. Gallery 93, located at 93 Winchester Street, Brookline, MA, is open from 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday.
Barbara Trachenberg is an itinerant artist taking inspiration from people and places she has met along the way. Her work is one of discovery and exploration. You may find hints of landscapes or figures, but you will be immersed in texture, color and a sense of Trachtenberg’s curious and often restless energy. Barbara is in it for the experience and wants to bring you along as you tease out colors, layers of materials and pops of color. She experiments with oil, acrylic, found materials, collaged papers and drawing. She allows chance to be part of the process and weaves back and forth between intentional moves and happenstance allowing materials to guide her next mark on the page or canvas.
Of her work Trachtenberg says: “Experimenting—my Hungarian grandmother cooked that way. A pinch here, a little more there. Not Knowing, thinking or planning, but feeling and discovering. As a musician and lover of many kinds of music, my discovery is accompanied by artists like Shostakovich, Jimi Hendrix and Etta James. Rather than illustrating an idea, I want to create space for the viewer’s discovery, and
self-discovery. I invite you to view each work by looking slowly, finding unexpected connections with your own life and by experiencing the freedom of Not Knowing where each journey will lead.”
Biography
Trachtenberg has been a member of many New England arts organizations, with solo shows in Havana, Cambridge, MA and rural France. She has exhibited in group shows regionally and internationally including in; France, Gloucester, MA, Charles Fine Arts, NorthShore Art, the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck. Honeyjones Gallery, Fountain Street, Mosesian, CambridgeArt, ConcordArt, Newart Center, Pianocraft. And in Peterborough, NH where she lived before moving to Boston. Her work in literature, education, psychology and cultural studies often enter her art. Trachtenberg is an amateur chamber music pianist and published writer. A MacDowell Fellow, Trachtenberg also attended residencies in rural France, Lisbon, & Brescia, Italy.
