SCAMS – Unexpected Charges for Streaming Entertainment! Be Wary!

Protect Your Identity, Money & Information: Be Wary of Unexpected Charges for Streaming Entertainment!
Winter can be a great time to stay home, grab a warm drink or some popcorn, and get cozy to enjoy a streaming movie or TV show. However, be cautious about unexpected notices regarding payment for your streaming account(s).
Description of the Scam
Consumers may get misleading notifications or calls stating that their Netflix, Amazon, or other streaming membership will be terminated unless the payment is made immediately. When the individual replies or clicks on (false) links, they may get robbed.
Spot the Scam
The message may appear legitimate, including company logos and information. When you hover over the sender’s email address, it may or may not match that of the corporation.
Stop the Scam
Do not reply, click on provided links, or call the listed phone number.
Independently locate the business’ actual website or phone number (from previous legitimate documents and communication) to validate the status of your account with them.
The Senior Center’s Tech Buddies support personnel can provide assistance in identifying the official website for these companies (so you don’t mistakenly land on a sham site). To make an appointment, call 617-730-2777.
