On Mondays, March 10 and 17 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm, the Brookline Health Department will be doing a “pop-up” event at the Senior Center. They launched The Heart Beat Project (HBP), a heart-safe community initiative designed to educate and spread awareness about basic lifesaving skills, particularly hands-only CPR. A cardiac emergency can occur anywhere and at any time—our goal is to empower community members to respond effectively in a crisis. Knowing the basics of CPR and how to use an AED can increase a person’s chance of survival in the event of sudden cardiac arrest. Every minute without intervention reduces the likelihood of survival, making bystander action critical in saving lives. This is a brief lesson, about 5 – 10 minutes, in American Red Cross CPR hands-only chest compressions and AED use.
